Illuminations of the Middle Ages

Here are a few students making their own EGG TEMPERA PAINT at the 'paint lab'. Students used this paint as a wash, which was painted over crayon, creating a resist in specified areas.

Students learned about illustrations that began in the middle ages and Renaissance era. These 'miniature paintings' were created as ornamentations (or decorations) of the first letter of a paragraph, usually written for Churches and Kings.
If you make it to our building for a visit....make sure to check out the CREATIVE STORIES that the students wrote to accompany their masterpieces. Poetry, sonets, and many stories of love and war are showcased in the lobby and upstairs hallways.
